College profile

The College of Materials Science and Engineering at Northeast Forestry University is the main school for the world-class construction discipline Forestry Engineering. The college, which was founded in 1952, began with a major in wood industry and is now one of the leading departments in China in the field of wood and forest product processing. The college was also the first in China to have a mobile postdoctoral station.

The national first-level key discipline Forestry Engineering established by the college has been selected as a national "double-first-class" key construction discipline§ and has been ranked first in the country many times. The college offers four of the eight second-level disciplines of Forestry Engineering. At present, the college offers five undergraduate majors. Three of these, Wood Science and Engineering, Chemical Processing of Forest Products and Light Chemical Engineering, are ranked nationally as first-class majors. The other two majors, Polymer Science & Engineering and Materials Chemistry, are both provincial first-class majors. The college has six provincial and ministerial-level scientific research and teaching facilities, including the Ministry of Education (MOE) Key Laboratory of Bio-based Materials Science & Technology and the MOE Engineering Research Center for Advanced Wooden Materials. The Wood Science Branch of the Chinese Society of Forestry is also affiliated with the college.
